Abstract
A very interesting and technically possibly important new development during the last three years is the detection of ceramic high-temperature superconducting materials. For theoretical as well as practical reasons it was interesting to test the possible influence of particles of this material on alveolar macrophages. It is well known that metal oxides can be toxic to these cells and that lung diseases can be induced by certain metals. In the following paper the first results obtained with one type of high-temperature superconducting material are described, these results indicate that particles of this material are not inert.
