Abstract

Maximal normal operators1 constitute a generalization of selfadjoint (hermitian) operations. Vagely speaking they may be conceived as operators with mutually orthogonal eigenvectors, but with complex eigenvalues. Selfadjoint operators and unitary operators are particular cases of maximal normal operators.
