Abstract
It is only in isolated and rare instances that hypnosis can be used to perform painlessly any surgical procedure. Its possibilities are limited in the case of surgical interventions requiring profound muscular relaxation. Greater opportunity in using hypnosis alone is afforded to the anesthetist in minor surgical procedures, emergencies, simple operations with children, and in those instances where the patient is to go home shortly after the operation is performed.
