Abstract
General purpose hypermedia systems (GPHS) facilitate the integration of heterogeneous data and applications into a homogeneous information structure. As the user accesses this structure through interactions, the issue of how this interaction behavior may be described becomes relevant. Current hypermedia models do not provide the descriptive potential to define the interaction behavior of hyper-structures in such a way that an easy run-time modifiability and extensibility of this behavior is possible. This, however, is a fundamental requirement for a GPHS.
This paper proposes a set of modeling primitives for describing the interaction behavior of an information structure which supports the use of external applications for object presentation and the flexible modifiability of behavior definitions.
