Abstract

The remarkably conserved hematopoietic programs between zebrafish and mammals make zebrafish an excellent model to study vertebrate blood development. Studies on zebrafish from the past 2 decades have greatly contributed to our understanding of human hematopoiesis and associated blood disorders. This chapter summarizes the important genetic and epigenetic factors involved in transcriptional regulation of blood development in zebrafish embryos. Recent advances using zebrafish for blood disease modeling and therapeutic discovery will also be discussed.
