Abstract
“Locking” from pain in the neck is common, especially in younger adults (and children; there is a congenital form, torticollis congenita). The head is typically in a tilted position with lateral flexion to one side and rotation to the other. Attempts to reposition the neck are painful. Occurs “spontaneously” or often after a quick movement, e.g. during sleep; the neck then gradually becomes stiffer with increasing pain. Asymmetric allocation of symptoms and considerably reduced mobility.
