Abstract

A vertebral fracture of compression type (especially if recurrent) in principle implies an osteoporosis diagnosis. Usually occurs from a fall from the same level or “spontaneously”. Women are affected seven times more often than men. It is noticeable that 60 % of the vertebral compressions are asymptomatic, can appear “spontaneously” or just from a minor physical strain, e.g. an attack of coughing. The compression is usually wedge formed due to the flexion force with the posterior components intact leading to a kyphotic angulation, classified as relatively stable, but pay attention to progress of the kyphosis and a reduction of body height.
