Zusammenfassung

Asthma bronchiale ist keine nosologische Einheit, sondern stellt ein durchaus heterogenes Krankheitsbild dar, bei dem erbliche Disposition und Umweltfaktoren in einer ambivalenten Wechselwirkung stehen und eine entscheidende Rolle für die Ausprägung der Erkrankung spielen. Idealerweise orientieren sich kausale Therapieansätze an den zugrunde liegenden Pathomechanismen. Da diese jedoch häufig schwer zu eruieren sind, besteht die Therapie des Asthma bronchiale auch heute noch im Wesentlichen aus symptomatischen Maßnahmen.
