Abstract

Eurojust works in close cooperation with the judicial authorities of the Member States that are conducting investigations and prosecutions against serious forms of cross-border crime. Close cooperation requires a constant dialogue and a fluent exchange of information between the College members of Eurojust and the prosecutors and/or investigating judges concerned, with a view to issue, transmit and execute multiple requests and orders on judicial cooperation in criminal matters (EAWs, LoRs), setting up of JITs, or agree on common actions and operations (coordination meetings, coordination centres) involving, in many cases, Europol and third States.

Eurojust has a tailor-made set of rules for the processing and protection of personal data, including rules on data quality, data processing and data security, which needs to be compatible with the principles and rights enshrined by the Codes of criminal proceedings of the 28 Member States, the EU legal instruments of judicial cooperation in criminal matters, and the rights of the suspects and accused persons in cross-border cases.

The opinions expressed by the author are personal and do not necessary coincide with those of Eurojust.
