Abstract

Symptomatic vitreo-macular adhesion (or vitreo-macular traction) describes vision loss from macular disease, occurring due to, or in association with, vitreo-macular adhesion. A review of the published evidence on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, and vitreo-macular traction syndrome reveals many gaps in the literature. Using the information that is available, including both direct and inferred data, we estimate that symptomatic vitreo-macular adhesion has a prevalence of approximately 355 per 100,000 population and an approximate annual incidence of 31 per 100,000.
