Zusammenfassung

Trinken und Essen sind überlebensnotwendig und bedeuten ein biologisches Grundbedürfnis des Menschen. Die Nahrungsaufnahme allein sichert jedoch nicht das Überleben und die Entwicklung des jungen Kindes. Kind und Eltern benötigen die oft beglückende emotionale und soziale Erfahrung im Zwiegespräch, im gemeinsamen Spiel und beim Füttern und Gefüttertwerden, um sich kennenzulernen, Befriedigung und Kompetenz zu erleben, ihre Beziehung zu festigen und körperlich-seelisches Wohlbefinden in einer positiven Gegenseitigkeit zu erfahren. Ca. 50 % seiner wachen Zeit verbringt das Neugeborene beim Gefüttertwerden, das so zu einer wesentlichen ersten sozialen Erfahrung wird (Wolke 2005). Die süße (Mutter-)Milch führt zudem über den Geschmacksreiz zur Minderung der körperlichen Aktivität des Säuglings und zur Beruhigung, zur Senkung der Herzrate, zur Augenöffnung und zu vermehrten Hand-Mund-Bewegungen, unterstützt also die Regulation der Verhaltenszustände (Blass u. Ciriamitaro 1994).
