Abstract

Development and application of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) are of great importance for the increasing demands of location-based services in both the civil and military fields. As a novel GNSS system, BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) is experiencing a rapid developing period in recent years. Software-based receiver is proved an inevitable trend of the GNSS techniques, where BDS software receiver has been concentrated in both the engineering and industry field. As the initial step in signal processing of the BDS computation, the acquisition module detects the presence of BDS satellite signal from the antenna and provides coarse estimation of Doppler frequency and code phase. The FFT-based acquisition method for BDS B1 signal is investigated in this paper, where the cross-correlation is simplified according to selected frequency points. From results of experiments with a BDS intermediate frequency signal collector and a reference receiver, it is illustrated that the presented FFT-based scheme is capable of realizing effective BDS B1 signal acquisition and is with great potential for development of complete BDS software receiver.
