IndoorDB: Extending Oracle to Support Indoor Moving Objects Management

Abstract

Managing moving objects in indoor space has been a research focus in recent years, as most people live and work in indoor space, e.g. working in office, living in apartment, etc. In this paper, we present an extension of Oracle named IndoorDB to support indoor moving objects management in a practical way. The extension is developed as a PL/SQL package and can be integrated into Oracle to offer new data types and operations for indoor location-based queries such as indoor navigation, hot spots detection, KNN, range queries, and so on. After an overview of the general features of IndoorDB, we discuss the architecture and implementation of IndoorDB. And finally, a case study of IndoorDB’s demonstration is presented.
