Abstract

Future wireless telecommunications systems will have to seamlessly operate across multiple radio technologies. The mobile terminals shall support a large variety of wireless standards, which allow ubiquitous connectivity through horizontal and vertical handovers [50, 62].The challenge of multiband and multi-standard operation is expected to be met by the frequency-agile, cognitive and software-defined radio (SDR) In this concept, a shared hardware platform shall be utilized for different standards. The inspection of the various standards reveals that a large variety of system parameters has to be supported [31].
