Abstract

Urinary tract infection, which is more common in infants and young children, is well known about the diagnosis and treatment. However, because of vague or various symptoms and signs in children, diagnosis may be sometimes delayed. When the urinary tract infection based on the clinical and laboratory examinations is diagnosed, more imaging studies are recommended to detect underlying urinary tract abnormalities. In children with repeated infections, imaging studies should check the presence and degree of renal damage. US is commonly selected for the initial imaging modality. But it cannot give enough information in every cases of urinary tract infection. So combined use of other imaging modalities (radionuclide scintigraphy, voiding cystourethrography, CT, MRI) may be needed.
