Abstract

The most common abdominal masses in childhood are renal origin masses, which include cystic renal diseases and renal tumors. This chapter will describe various cystic renal diseases and renal tumors in childhood. Cystic renal diseases in children are autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, juvenile nephronophthisis, glomerulocystic kidney disease, malformation syndromes (tuberous sclerosis, von Hippel-Lindau disease), multicystic dysplastic kidney, and multilocular cystic neoplasm. Renal tumors in children include Wilms tumor, nephroblastomatosis, clear cell sarcoma, rhabdoid tumor, mesoblastic tumor, multilocular cystic neoplasm, renal cell carcinoma, renal lymphoma, and renal leukemia.
