Advanced Cosmetic Otoplasty

Abstract

To appreciate how far we have gone to develop the treatment of the prominent ear, we must understand the historical development in its chronological order. Ear repair began with flaps for repair of injuries and distortions. Ultimately the repairs extended to the prominent ear for cosmetic improvement. Ear repair began in 600 BC, and cosmetic otoplasty for the prominent ear began in 1854. Improvements have been made in the procedures up to the present time. The historical development of otoplasty is discussed with appropriate illustrations.
