Abstract

Otoplasty should be performed to correct prominent ears around the age of 7 years. General anesthesia is usually required for patients under the age of 10 years. After 10 years of age, the procedure may be performed under local anesthesia and sedation, with an anesthesiology team. The authors discuss normal ear position, the technique of Island Otoplasty, and the possible complications. The island technique is an effective, simple, reliable, and reproducible method of otoplasty to correct prominent ears. The procedure has had low recurrence and complication rates.
