Zusammenfassung
Die Geschichte der Suche nach effektiven Krebsbehandlungen ist wahrscheinlich so alt wie die Geschichte jeder anderen formellen medizinischen Praktik. Abgesehen von der radikalen Amputationschirurgie ohne Vollnarkose konnte die moderne operative Chirurgie, wie wir sie kennen, erst mit der Entdeckung der Allgemeinanästhesie Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts entwickelt werden. So entwickelte sich die sichere und schmerzfreie operative Chirurgie als erster wesentlicher Fortschritt in der Krebsbehandlung.
