The development of computers technology and the Internet has helped the expansion of various methods for creation and distribution of digital media content. Information in transit through the Internet is vulnerable, so the importance of reducing the chance of the information being stolen during the transmission is being a real issue. Data can be accessed, altered and deleted without proper authentication and authorization. There are various security technologies that enhance the security of digital media. This paper provides a comprehensive idea about the technology most widely used to prevent illegal copy or reproduction of digital content, namely watermarking.
