Abstract

Melts of 4 kg to 5 Mg were cast to ingots, sand moulds or centrifugally to tubes. Ingots were electro-slag-remelted. Hot working was carried out by forging (cogging back and radial), rolling and ring rolling. Quenching from solution anneal temperature was studied in detail to find the critical cooling time required to subdue precipitation. Rods were cold drawn in steps up to 37 % reduction. General rules for welding and machining are discussed.
