Abstract

Chapter 1 is for the readers who are not familiar with the magnetism. We present here the basic knowledge on the magnetism. It contains the magnetic moment, the basic Hamiltonian in solids, formation of atomic moment, metal and insulator in solids, orbital quenching, the Heisenberg model, as well as the magnetic structures. These topics are required to understand the metallic magnetism in this book.
