Korea won its independence from Japan in 1945. Korea has experimented with its own democracy since it established the Democratic Constitution and its Government in 1948. In 1948, the U.S military government, led by General John R. Hodge, departed from the Korean peninsula after their 3-year governance. Korea has adapted a presidential system with a brief period of parliamentary cabinet system in the early 1960s, since Korea made its own Constitution in 1948. U.S. law and legal practice have not only influenced Korea, but also left their mark on international transaction law and many other laws.
