Launching IFMBE into the 21st Century: 50 Years and Counting

Abstract

In 1869, the Bulgarian Literary Society was founded and later developed into the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). Some years later the Bulgarian engineers and architects formed their own organization. The first biomedical engineer in Bulgaria was S. Karadimov who introduced X-ray and electrical therapy instrumentation in the country before the Second World War and established a service and maintenance facility.
