Abstract

Laser is a chaotic system like Lorenz system, which is a model of the atmospheric flow, and some lasers indeed show unstable behaviors under certain operating conditions. Though other lasers are stable as far as they are oscillated at solitary conditions, they are also easily destabilized by external perturbations and show chaotic dynamics. This chapter gives a brief review of the history of laser chaos, especially in semiconductor lasers, which is the main topic of this book. After that the outline of this book is presented.
