Zusammenfassung
Das Schädel-Hirn-Trauma ist im Kindesalter ein häufiges Ereignis und die Inzidenz wird auf 1–2/1000 Kinder beziffert (Tab. 17.1). Die Einteilung in Commotio, Contusio und Compressio cerebri bzw. in leichtes, mittleres und schweres Schädel-Hirn-Trauma ist vor allem auch für den diagnostischen Algorithmus, die therapeutische Option und die Prognose von herausragender Bedeutung. Viele der Kinder mit Schädel-Hirn-Trauma erleiden ein leichtes Schädel-Hirn-Trauma mit hervorragender Prognose. Allerdings sind ca. 6% der Patienten mit Schädel-Hirn-Trauma schwerstverletzte Kinder, die eine maximale intensivmedizinische Therapie benötigen. Bei ca. 5% der Kinder mit Schädel-Hirn-Traumen kommt es zum tödlichen Ausgang oder aber zum „apallischen Syndrom“.
