The following essay will start by showing how the market of tourism in Europe is developing at the moment. It will then analyse differences that exist between the booking behavior at travel agencies and in online sales. One of its features will be the scope of preferences while choosing a hotel during a stay. All of these analyses are based on the retail panel of GfK Retail and Technology GmbH – or shorter GfK Travel Insights – which has been available for several years now in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, France, and Russia.
