Zusammenfassung

Die Schizophrenie ist eine Störung mit einer Vielzahl von unterschiedlichen Symptomen (Prävalenz, Ätiologie und Symptome, s. unten). Ein für das Leben der Patienten wichtiger Befund ist die Verschlechterung der sozialen Fertigkeiten bei rund zwei Dritteln der Betroffenen, wobei soziale Informationen fehlerhaft interpretiert werden. In vielen Fällen führt dies zu sozialer Ausgrenzung und trägt zur Stigmatisierung Betroffener bei. Komplexe soziale Situationen und die Emotionen anderer werden dabei nur unvollständig verstanden und zum Teil vom Common Sense abweichend interpretiert. Es kommt zu Kommunikationsproblemen, das soziale Funktionsniveau sinkt in der Folge.
