Abstract

Job monitoring and management is the process of supporting the automation of running complex and large numbers of jobs, i.e. groups of commands in a file, on target hosts. One such job is the building process as described in Chap. 4 which should ideally be monitored as a self-contained part of the overall workflow (see Chap. 2) using the chosen tool. The job structure, parallelism and available hardware to run on should all have been selected during the configuration phase as described in Chap. 3 and it follows that the chosen tool needs to be flexible enough to accommodate diverse environments in this respect.
