Evaluation of RFID Technology Application in Production of Fiber-Reinforced Plastics

  • Conference paper
  • First Online:

Abstract

Fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) are increasingly used for technical products due to their outstanding mechanical characteristics. However, the industrial application of these materials is still limited due to a lack of adequate production systems and therefore suffers from high costs. In addition, a high percentage of work is dedicated to quality control and documentation. In this contribution, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is applied as an enabler, to avoid non value-adding activities and to improve the production with regard to the logistic objectives. The effects of integrating this technology into the FRP production are understood and evaluated by material flow simulation.
