The focus of this review is to examine the relationships between international conflict and changes in climate (with shifts in water availability being a key factor in these changes). There is a vast amount of literature touching on the issues of climate and conflict, and by extension on environment and natural resources and their influence on societal and political stability. Global warming has raised concerns that changes to climate will pose unique challenges to many nations’ security interests. Several studies have examined how already stressed systems that are vulnerable could be driven past a tipping point by shifts in climate.
