An Introduction to Semiconductor Lasers

  • Karl F. Renk
Part of the Graduate Texts in Physics book series (GTP)

Beginning with this chapter, we will treat semiconductor lasers — that are solid state lasers with active media based on semiconductor materials. We will concentrate our discussion on diode lasers (= laser diodes), that is,of current pumped semiconductor lasers and, in particular, on diode lasers operating at room temperature. These are presently the most important semiconductor lasers with respect to applications.
