Abstract

A gas laser contains atoms or molecules. Stimulated transitions occur in atoms between electronic states and in molecules between rotational, vibrational, or electronic states. We describe various gas discharge lasers: helium–neon laser; metal vapor laser; argon ion laser; excimer laser; nitrogen laser; CO2 laser; optically pumped gas lasers.
