Challenges for the Future Neuroprosthetic Implants

Abstract

Cochlear implant and deep brain stimulator are the most successful neuroprosthetic implant systems in use today. They help hundreds of thousand people worldwide who would remain impaired otherwise. However, the present implants need further improvements in their size, MRIcompatibility, and battery lifetime. These challenges will be discussed and possible solutions will be presented.
