Conference paper

This case study describes Kinetic Pavilion a master student project by Elise Elsacker and Yannick Bontinckx developed for elective Parametric Design & Digital Fabrication at the MMLAB of Sint-Lucas School of architecture. The pavilion represents a building that can adapt its formal layout and shape to different uses and input parameters. The Kinetic Pavilion is designed as an open platform that allows different modes of adaptation and interfacing with different open source technologies. The paper looks at the relation between parametric modeling and adaptable, kinetic architecture and its implications on the role of the designer and the notion of the model in architectural design.
