Zusammenfassung
Die Prävalenz choroidaler Neovaskularisationen (CNV) bei altersabhängiger Makuladegeneration (AMD) nimmt mit zunehmender Lebenserwartung der Bevölkerung deutlich zu. Der Visusverlust bei CNV wird durch das Einwachsen und die Hyperpermeabilität neuer Gefäße aus der Choriokapillaris verursacht. Aus diesen Gefäßneubildungen treten Serum und Blut aus und es finden fibrotische Umwandlungen statt, die zu erheblichem Visusverlust führen können. Weder für die AMD noch für eine damit verbundene Neovaskularisation existiert derzeit eine kurative Therapie. Die direkte thermische Laserphotokoagulation von CNV eignete sich die sich nur für eine limitierte Anzahl der Fälle. Im vergangenen Jahrzehnt eröffnete die photodynamische Therapie mit Verteporfin eine Behandlungsmöglichkeit für eine größere Anzahl von Patienten. Beide Therapieverfahren haben einen Teil der Patienten vor weiterem Sehverlust bewahrt. Jede dieser Behandlungsmethoden konnte einen gewissen Erfolg im Hinblick auf Stabilisierung oder Stillstand der Krankheit verzeichnen.
