Abstract
Whereas the previous chapter only referred to the measurement techniques employed in general terms, the present chapter provides an elaboration and justification of these methods. It also provides assessments of validity and reliability.
A modified version of this chapter discussing measurement and validation of the full ‘Positions and Salience in European Union Politics’ dataset has been published in European Union Politics (Veen 2012b). I am grateful to three anonymous reviewers for pointed comments and critique.
