Abstract
In the previous chapter, we have derived bounds on the achievable rate using synchronized detection in combination with a solely pilot based channel estimation. In recent years receivers using iterative code-aided channel estimation got into the focus of research. The main idea behind this type of receivers is that—additionally to the pilot symbols which are used for an initial channel estimation and decoding—the channel estimation is enhanced by iteratively feeding back reliability information on the data symbols acquired by the channel decoder. Subsequently, this enhanced channel estimate is used in a further decoding step, permitting enhanced decoding results.
