The Laser’s Position in Medicine

  • Chapter
Applied Laser Medicine

Abstract

Lasers are employed in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, analogous to the applications of ultrasound. This similarity extends even further: both modalities must distinguish between pulsed and cw systems operating at various frequencies. With respect to the clinical application of lasers, the following has been proven: it is not sufficient to take into account merely the purely scientific explanation of the laser processes, i.e. the “how?”, nor to distinguish only between the fields of application, the “where”.
