Abstract

The T-cell lymphomas make up a heterogeneous group of aggressive neoplasms that share a T-cell immunophenotype. Although some of the diseases in T-cell lymphomas may have a protracted clinical course, the majority are the most aggressive hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasms. In general, they have a poorer response to therapy and shorter survival times when compared to B-cell lymphomas and Hodgkin disease (Coiffier et al. 1990; Grogan et al. 1985; Kwak et al. 1991}; Melnyk et al. 1997}). Although uncommon, the incidence varies quite substantially in cohorts of aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas, depending on the series. T-cell lymphomas represent approximately 20–30% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas in Far East countries and slightly less than 10% in Europe (Harris et al. 1994; Lee et al. 1999; Ko et al. 1998).
