Zusammenfassung
In den USA und in Europa erhält das Gesundheitssystem immer weniger finanzielle Förderung. Unter anderem reduzieren sich auch rehabilitative Leistungen für Menschen mit erworbener Hirnschädigung. Verschärft wird dieses Problem dadurch, dass bisher keine ausreichenden Wirksamkeitsnachweise für spezifische Rehabilitations-maßnahmen erbracht wurden. Oft fehlen wissenschaftlichen Belege zur Verhinderung politischer Entscheidungen, die sich ausschließlich an ökonomischen Erwägungen und weniger an den Bedürfnissen der Patienten orientieren (Prigatano 1996).
„Es kann keine Philosophie und keine ehrbare Wissenschaft ohne Menschlichkeit geben“ (Bronowski 1973, S. 15).
