Abstract
The vascular system is the first functional organ system that forms during the development of the mouse embryo. It is essential to provide the growing embryo with nutrition and oxygen to ensure a normal development and proper function of the organs. During later stages of development and in adulthood, blood vessels regulate vascular homeostasis (Carmeliet 2000, Risau 1997).
