Zusammenfassung
Die Bildauflösung wird bei der Bilddatenerfassung im Scanner oder der Digitalkamera festgelegt. Ihr Maß ist die Anzahl der Pixel (picture element) pro Streckeneinheit. In der Bildverarbeitung wird die Auflösung mit ppi, pixel per inch, oder ppcm, Pixel pro Zentimeter, angegeben. Als Ausgabeauflösung verwendet man die Einheit dpi, dots per inch. Ein „dot“ ist ein Bildpunkt des Monitors, des Druckers oder der Rastermatrix im RIP (Raster Image Processor).
