Abstract
Euroclear and the European Transaction Bank have more in common than is perhaps evident to the casual observer. Both are pursuing a course of consolidation to reduce costs by increasing concentrated volumes of business. Both intend to share the benefits of economies of scale with their users. However, the European Transaction Bank is consolidating back offices whereas Euroclear is consolidating the settlement infrastructure.
