Zusammenfassung

Die Mitralstenose, in früheren Zeiten der häufigste Herzklappenfehler, ist infolge des Rück- gangs des rheumatischen Fiebers in den westlichen Ländern wesentlich seltener geworden. In Entwicklungsländern ist sie jedoch weiterhin sehr häufig und zeigt dort auch einen stark beschleunigten Verlauf. In westlichen Ländern wird sie in erster Linie bei Gast- arbeiter(inne)n aus Entwicklungsländern angetroffen. Insbesondere wegen der engen Verbindung zum Pulmonalkreislauf ist sie für den Kardiologen ein außerordentlich vielseitiges Vitium.
