Zusammenfassung

Die häufigste Endokarderkrankung ist die rheumatische Endokarditis, gefolgt von der infektiösen Endokarditis. Das rheumatischen Fieber tritt in den westlichen Industrieländern kaum noch auf, wenngleich immer wieder über sein unerwartetes Auftreten z. B. in den USA berichtet wird. In den Ländern der dritten Welt ist das rheumatische Fieber jedoch unverändert häufig. Auch die infektiöse Endokarditis ist einem Wandel unterworfen: Zunehmend werden atypische Erreger nachgewiesen, eine Einteilung dieser Krankheitsgruppe nach den Infektionserregern erscheint sinnvoll.
