Abstract

Kinetic perimetry may nowadays be regarded as an anachronism in glaucoma diagnostics. Manual kinetic perimetry —C the basis of visual field examination — was abandoned in routine glaucoma diagnostics many years ago for several reasons: First of all, the procedure crucially depends on examiners’ experience, skill and performance. Digital storage and recall of perimetric records in manually driven perimeters is also not possible and there are no auto-calibration routines available for kinetic instruments, such as the Goldmann perimeter, and the Tübingen Manual Perimeter. Furthermore, due to its pantograph mechanism, the spatial resolution of the Goldmann instrument is comparatively poor within the central visual field.
