Zusammenfassung
Kraft und Druck existieren nicht per se, sie entstehen erst, wenn zwei Körper in Wechselwirkung miteinander treten. Haben sie mechanischen Kontakt miteinander, entsteht an der Kontaktfläche Druck, der im Allgemeinen vom Ort abhängt; man spricht hier von einer Flächenpressung oder Druckverteilung. Die Druckverteilung hängt stark von den Körpern und der Kontakt situation ab oder anders herum gesehen, die Druckverteilung ist eine gute Beschreibung der Wechselwirkung. Daher ist es nicht verwunderlich, wenn bei den unterschiedlichsten Anwendungen bereits sehr früh der Wunsch geäuβert wurde, Druckverteilung zu messen.
