Abstract

Adnexal diseases present a frequent problem in clinical routine as they present a broad spectrum of findings. Cross-sectional imaging modalities are valuable adjuncts in the differential diagnosis. Ultrasonography (US), including endovaginal ultrasonography and color Doppler sonography, has been well established as the primary imaging modality for evaluation of the ovaries. When US findings are equivocal, computed tomography (CT) has been widely used; however, it is often of limited value owing to its poor soft tissue contrast. Recently, especially with the development of new techniques, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a new imaging modality for the ovaries and may replace CT for many purposes.
