Abstract

The diagnosis and management of prostate cancer are developing into a major health care issue. The annual incidence of prostate cancer in the United States has increased from 86000 (1985) to approximately 244000 (1995) with the number of deaths due to prostate cancer estimated to be 40400 each year (SILVERBERG 1985; WINGO et al. 1995). In light of these statistics, accurate diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer to ascertain effective therapy is essential.
